2008-09-09 00:00

Proposal: TEPECS Trans-European
Personal Ehealth Products and Services for ageing persons

Objective 1.4: ICT for ageing well with
cognitive problems, combining assistive and independent living
technologies
*Funding instrument:* Pilot B - it is intended to
support several pilot actions

The objective is to
significantly improve quality of life and social care for the ageing
population by combining assistive technologies to compensate for
cognitive problems or mild dementia with independent living
platforms, specifying and demonstrating the resulting innovative ICT
enabled products and services.

Solutions should provide
cognitive training, activation and reinforcement for the elderly as
well as support to their day-to-day activities and social
interactions. This should result in a substantial prolongation of the
time they can continue to be at home rather than in an institution

The pilots should be clearly demand driven and build
on public-private partnerships. It should
bring together a set of
regional actions addressing the above goals and involve relevant

stakeholders such as care service providers, housing corporations
and insurance organisations.
A strong involvement of users and
their representatives, their families and carers, is expected
to
ensure end-user acceptance and uptake.

OUR TELECONFERENCE TODAY with some creative Storytelling included...

We had a conference meeting over Skype today about Wp1 and Wp2. Ferran wanted to cover some urgent questions. He will be negotiating with Catalonia next week. I try to figure out what we covered. One of the participants represented information technology from Bulgaria.

Participants: Germany, Bulgaria, Holland, Spain, Greece, Finland and... I couldn't catch you all. Please add your own comments to make it more live.

“Let me study and read,” The Bulgarian participant said. “I like to get a clearer picture.”

“This is the first draft of the proposal, first draft of participants” mister Ferran told. “This is what we have outlined to get started.”

“There is a lot of work to be done.” Someone comments.

Ferran continuous, “This is how to transfer all the knowledge to correspond with European Innova.”

The generation of the basic information and let it grow into basic knowledge, to include the knowledge stake holders. We talk about actors, participants, trainers, coaches, mentors and incubators participating in an annual European contest. “What do they want from this service?”

Enterprise 2.0 - Finland

Let me comment about the social media and enterprise 2.0 applications in Finland. We’re a group of 20 people, academics, consultants, knowledge workers, writing a book about the evolution and use of Web 2.0 and social media in SME’s and large companies.

I’m writing about “Virtual Organizations 1970 – 2010”. The idea is to span pre-web 2.0 social media and networking tools and applications and compare them to the easy to use and cost-effective tools of the present Web 2.0.

There is a big change in the making. Large companies like Nokia are opening up, changing from command – control towards co-creation and collaboration, even beyond. Working together on a global scale is key to success.

The borders of the company are becoming more fluent. The Prosumer idea is invading business processes. Prosumers are more and more participating in the making of the whole supply chain. We see much more self-servicing and do-it-yourself.

The SME Enterprises can be big beneficiaries while they can multiple their size through global open innovation and co-operation with partners and clients.

The future Virtual Organizations will be much different in their working styles. Strangers from all over the world can embrace a common goal and start to work out new solutions. People who hasn’t met before, face to face, write the book. Our meeting place is a working platform with wikies and blogs. The work process and collaboration is very fluent.

There are three things you need in order to join an online LESSON.

  1. A javascript-capable browser. We recommend Safari, IE7, or Opera. Firefox2 seems to have issues with fully redrawing the screen during each page refresh. More news on that as we figure it out.
  2. Skype (freeware:win/mac/*nix) and a set of speakers or headphones. The lesson audio is broadcast live by the teacher using a headset mic, and if you aren't listening in to the Skypecast, you will miss quite a bit of informative training.
  3. A couple of hours and a willingness to ask questions. Seriously, that's it. With the two pieces of software listed above, and a willingness to learn, you will be able to enjoy a peek into the inner workings of IST-OS-RTD+I each week.

How to connect:
To join a TEIPKIS-Meeting in-progress, fire up your web browser and go to The Live Screencast Page. You will be presented with a pop-up dialog box that proclaims, "This applet was signed by 'ultravnc.net', yadda yadda." Click 'Trust' or 'OK' to load the applet and continue. Please note that the live screencast page will be blank unless we are currently conducting a training.

Here's what the screencast reflector page looks like:

Join the live screencast - (see diagram at left)
  1. Video: Displays the teacher's screen - (click 'ok' to connect ... no password)
  2. Chat: Logs you into the IRC chat channel so you can type questions
  3. Audio: Click the link to our Skypecast (only shows up when active), sign into Skype and listen

It goes without saying that you will have to enable Java applets and Javascript in your browser for this to work.

Optional Software

IRC: You will not have to learn how to use IRC (or learn anything new at all) to enjoy a lesson. If you're familiar with IRC and it's featureset, however, you may want to join us in #Webmeeting on FreeNode (irc.freenode.net) and use the VNC-only screencast page instead. The lesson plan info and related links can be found by typing "lesson?" in #webmeeting. A Skype dial-up number can always be discovered by typing "Skype?" in #webminar as well.

My Following Steps

Dear Mrs/Sirs,

Objective ICT-2007.1.6: New Paradigms and Experimental Facilities

The European Commission will open its second FP7-ICT Call for proposals early June with a submission deadline on Tuesday 9 October 2007.

For people interested in "New Paradigms and experimental Facilities", a free information event is organised in Brussels on 14 June 2007 (see agenda).

Quote from the ICT Work programme 2007-2008

Target outcome :

a) Advanced networking approaches to architectures and protocols, designed to cope with increased scale, complexity, mobility and requirements for security, resilience and transparency of the Future Internet coupled with their validation in large scale testing environments based on a combination of physical and 'virtual' infrastructures.

b) Interconnected test beds addressing novel distributed and reconfigurable protocol architectures; novel distributed service architectures, infrastructures and software platforms; and advanced embedded or overlay security, trust and identity management architectures and technologies. Test beds for systems that provide trusted access to eservices with users requiring no administration and security skills.

c) Co-ordination and support actions for:

i) Standardisation and conference support;

ii) Co-ordination with related national or regional programmes or initiatives.

Expected Impact :

  • Strengthened European position in the development of the Future Internet.

  • Wider take-up of technological developments in networks and service infrastructure facilitated by a comprehensive validation of the technological and service choices.

  • Global consensus towards standards and strengthened international co-operation through interconnected test beds and interconnection capabilities offered to third countries.

  • Higher confidence in the secure use of the Internet through test beds enabling trusted access to e-Services.
